Figures released by the SMMT (The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) have shown that 2015 was a record year for new car and van registrations, it exceeded the previous record set in 2003, where 2,579,050 new cars were registered. In 2015, (which saw the fourth consecutive year of growth), the new car market saw the registration of 2.63 million units which is a rise of 6.3%. This increase was reported across all fuel types with petrol and diesel registrations up 8.4% and 3% respectively.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, “The new car market defied expectations in 2015, hitting an all-time record driven by strong consumer and business confidence. The past four years have seen a remarkable period of sustained growth, and the outlook remains positive with every reason to expect the market to hold broadly steady in 2016.”
